Active Child announces new EP and UK live dates

Active Child has announced the ‘Rapor’ EP, his first release since the critically acclaimed full length debut, You Are All I See. Set for release on 21 October via Third Rock Recordings, it features new track ‘Subtle’ with guest vocals from none other than Mikky Ekko.

‘Subtle’ sees a more complex, electronic backdrop at play than on previous efforts, its bold pop streak still finding those vocals arcing skywards though, soaring towards Ekko’s faster-paced flair.

Following the release of his critically acclaimed debut album, You Are All I See, Pat Grossi hit the road for two non-stop years of US and European headline tours (“a frequently stunning set” Evening Standard), sharing stages with the likes of M83 and James Blake.

“Being on the road for that long was exhausting, frustrating at times, but it was occasionally highlighted with the most profound outpouring of emotion” explains Grossi. “There is no way to really explain the feeling of a complete stranger coming up to you after a show and wrapping their arms around you. It was in those moments that I realized where I fit in, I guess you could say I found my place as an artist. And it pushed me further than I ever thought I could go.”

After this international run was through, Grossi returned to Los Angeles with a new inspiration and vision for his next release. Named after the mountaintop home studio to which he retreated, ‘Rapor’ is the first complete body of work to emerge since 2011.

“The house is made up almost entirely of glass, designed by the architects Buff and Hensman as their personal refuge from the chaos of LA. Inside the studio you can feel the sun pouring through the skylights and the mountains wrapping around on all sides. They named it Rapor, Ra meaning sun and Por meaning house. Sometimes I would spend weeks alone at home writing without leaving or having visitors. It was during those periods that I realized how important that space was to me creatively. I relied on that solitude.”

Emerging from Rapor with an inspired and incredibly personal collection of songs, Grossi moved to Heavy Duty Studios in Burbank, CA over the summer of 2013 to work with producers Kevin Seaton (Major Lazer, Snoop Lion) & Nick Ruth (Mikky Ekko) to complete his vision, which includes vocal features from contemporaries and friends Mikky Ekko and Ellie Goulding. Goulding covered Grossi’s stand out ‘Hanging On’ on her current release Halcyon.
