Angel Olsen reveals video for ‘Hi-Five’
Last week, Angel Olsen unveiled some previously unheard songs via a very intimate NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert and also gave a taste of her forthcoming session with La Blogotheque but now, with Burn Your Fire for No Witness due out on 17 February via Jagjaguwar, she has revealed the video for the bold, expressive and dynamic single ‘Hi-Five.’

Directed by frequent Angel collaborator Zia Anger, the “Hi-Five” video simulates a television broadcast from the 60s and 70s, where female pop stars do choreographed performances in grandiose studios with sparkling, modern sets. Anger says, “They were always so wild and psychedelic and humorous from afar. The more you watch them, the more wooden and awkward the performances become. There is a certain loneliness captured. The song ‘Hi-Five’ seems to contain the same sort of duality.” In making the video, Angel and Anger decided to revisit the technique of these 60s and 70s broadcasts. They used an old studio and the junk left in it to create their own epic space, achieving a demented, totally sincere and hallucinatory video.
Burn Your Fire For No Witness will be released via Jagjaguwar on 17 February 2014.

Angel Olsen will release her powerful new album, Burn Your Fire for No Witness, on February 17, 2014 via Jagjaguwar. Throughout this “collection of songs, grown in a year of heartbreak, travel, and transformation,” Olsen sings with full-throated exultation, admonition, and bold, expressive melody. And, with the help of producer John Congleton, her music now crackles with a churning, rumbling low end and a brighter energy. With Burn Your Fire for No Witness, a more revealing and self-assured Olsen is opening up, allowing us to be in the room with her at the very genesis of these songs, when the thread of creation is most vulnerable and least filtered.
Angel and her band have a couple of UK dates set for March this year while Burn Your Fire For No Witness is available for pre-order today. An instant download of ‘Forgiven/Forgotten’ comes with each iTunes pre-order. ‘Hi-Five’ is also available to buy now via iTunes.
