Neko Casek.d. lang and Laura Veirs – known collectively as case/lang/veirs – released their highly acclaimed, self-titled debut album last week via ANTI-. After featuring as a BBC 6 Music Album of the Day on Tuesday, and sharing a full-length video of their first concert via NPR, the record has now brilliantly entered the UK Top 40 at number 28.

Premiered via Pitchfork, the trio have also shared a video for recent single ‘Atomic Number’. Directed by Kangmin Kim, it follows an animated character on its quest for compatibility.

“This animation is inspired by the search for a soul-mate with the same atomic number, 42,” Kim said in a statement. “We are introduced to a world at which every element and character occupy a tiny space in an expansive land mass. The audience is essentially the third person in this colorful, bright world, and in contrast, we can take a contemplative view on the main character’s feelings of emptiness in his lonely journey of life.”

Reviewing her recent, career-spanning box set Truckdriver, Gladiator, MuleUncut called Neko Case “one of the greatest voices of the modern era.” Along the way she has earned three Grammy nominations, cracked the Top 5 of the Billboard 200, and lent her voice to a range of projects, from The Hunger Games OST to HBO’s Vinyl.

Platinum-selling, four-time Grammy winner k.d. lang is a genre unto herself, unapologetically blurring the lines between country, punk, jazz and beyond. No stranger to collaboration, she has recorded in the past with everyone from Loretta Lynn and Kitty Wells, to Elton John and Tony Bennett who declared her “the best singer of her generation.”

Laura Veirs has drawn on an abiding love of classic country and folk music and a poet’s eye for detail to build a singular catalog that ranges from a children’s record to a film soundtrack and more. Called “elemental” by Pitchfork, her 2013 album Warp and Weft was something of a predecessor to case/lang/veirs, featuring contributions from both Case and lang.
