“Cross Record specialize in creeping rock songs that blow in and out like storms”
Stereogum

Cross Record, also known as Emily Cross, has shared a video for ‘High Rise’, the latest track taken from her forthcoming album Wabi-Sabi, out 29 January via Ba Da Bing Records.

Self-created by Cross and her husband Dan Duszynski one muggy October morning, Cross bizarrely merges with the Dripping Springs, TX landscape – where they reside – via strange contortions that become alien dance moves. Cross approaches videos as integral pieces of her albums, and the sonic intensity of ‘High Rise’ is the primary inspiration. She also tosses in a chainsaw for good measure.

Cross and Duszynski recorded Wabi-Sabi at their home, complete with a chicken coop and adjoining a bird sanctuary. Interacting and adapting to new environments is a theme that permeates this smoky, atmospheric second album. Wabi-Sabi can be unsettling and loud with a dark intensity of booming drums, thick guitar and destabilised electronics, but also more contemplative and serene, emphasising Cross’ wispy, silvery singing and minimal presentation. And, as seen by the video, it’s a captivating crystallisation of Cross’ passion for music and visual art.

Wabi-Sabi is out via Ba Da Bing Records 29 January 2016. Pre-orders can be made here. Check out the previously shared ‘Steady Waves’ here.
