Having previously announced his new album Pigeonheart – out 29th July 2016 through his own Octaves / Outset Recordings – with the tracks ‘War Machine‘ and ‘Sawtooth‘, DM Stith has today shared an incredibly intriguing new video for ‘Amylette‘.
Of the clip – which is directed by Stith and Sarah Hanssen – he says: “Sarah has a little summer home upstate that she and her kids have shared with me on occasion. I first went up about a year ago, and found that the little town of Pine Bush has built an identity around UFO sightings, tales of visitation, abduction and observation. In my weekend there, I walked more than I wrote, taking in the peculiar tone of the town – farmer’s markets, barber shops and craft dens with wiry green cartoon beings painted on storefront windows. I spent the weekend wondering if we were being watched.
Nearly a year later, during a conversation with Sarah, I made the connection with ‘Amylette’, a song I’d written on a memory of seeing my mother hours after she’d given birth to my younger sister – or rather, on being seen by my mother in that moment. I held onto this memory of her gaze on me as if it was the first time I’d ever been seen by anyone. I wrote up a treatment based on a line of trees on her property and we staged our own little invasion.”
During the intervening years since his debut album Heavy Ghost in 2009, Stith toured the United States and Europe on his own, opened for Julia Holter and Yann Tiersen, was a part of Sufjan Stevens‘ Age of Adz live band and was front man to the collaborative project The Revival Hour.
Pigeonheart is out 29th July 2016 via Octaves / Outset Recordings and can be pre-ordered via iTunes.
