Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points‘ new album Crush is out today. As is typical to his career so far, the album defies all expectations – solidifying his position as one of Britain’s most respected electronic artists. Crush has already received widespread critical praise including a cover feature with DJ Magazine9/10 ‘Album of the Month’ from both Mixmag and Future Music and 9/10 from Loud and Quiet as well as 8/10 from CrackThe Line of Best FitUncut and more.

Spotify & Ninja Tune have today launched a bespoke website where fans can experience unique visuals as they listen to the album for the first time. Additionally, on Saturday evening (19 October) from 6pm BTS these unique visuals will be beamed into the real world as live projections in Shoreditch’s Ely’s Yard.

The website will enable fans to discover the new album in full whilst watching the enthralling, never seen before visuals created by Hamill Industries – the artistic team behind the album artwork, the video for single ‘Last Bloom’ and the Floating Points live shows. Hamill have recreated the album artwork (made using a method in which bubbles react to the percussion of Sam’s music) in their studio exclusively for this project.

Tomorrow, as the sun sets on Saturday night, projections will slowly be revealed in Ely’s Yard just off Brick Lane in Shoreditch. Using a technique called ‘projection mapping’ the analogue visuals have been manipulated to interact with the shape and details of the building’s exact dimensions so the the grey, urban and concrete London space will be transformed into a swirl of kaleidoscopic colours.

Speaking of the event Floating Points says:
“Hamill Industries and I have been experimenting with projections for our live show and so the opportunity to bring these to a different environment and on such a big scale is really exciting.”

Anna Diaz (Hamill Industries) explains the inception and creation of the unique visuals:
“Creating these visuals is an organic, physical process where percussive elements of Sam’s music creates beautiful swirls of kaleidoscopic colours in the film of a bubble. As we wanted the liquids to interact with the shapes of the building, we designed proportional geometry around its architectural features by creating a physical model and creating the visuals by hand. By doing it this way, we stayed true to the spirit of the audio-reactive bubbles and all the analogue visual styles created by Floating Points, and it also made it more realistic and refined.”
