José González has today shared the video for ‘Swing’. The joyous new track is joined by an official music video, directed by longtime visual collaborator Mikel Cee Karlsson (Fever Ray, Junip). The video saw its premiere earlier today via a TikTok livestream with the intention to inspire confidence and personal empowerment.
José says of the track:
“‘Swing’ is a song with (almost) only good vibes! It was musically inspired by high-life from West Africa and Caribbean music. With its layered light guitars and a melodic bass line on top of a beat from a drum machine app, ‘Swing’ is a song about dancing and following your natural impulses”
Video director Karlsson says:
“I was thinking of ideas for ‘Swing’ when I stumbled upon a scientific paper that focused on the behavioral patterns of birds and their movements in the sky. I found the natural choreography of the birds really beautiful. Like a form of dance, shaped for survival.
“That gave me the idea to for an alternative kind of dance video, using everyday scenes and set in a common place, like an average Swedish beach. I wanted to see what natural choreography I could find there. In the basic interaction between people, animals and objects. Trying to highlight specific movements and patterns in order to find some banal, but beautiful and iconic little snapshots from everyday life, and make them dance.”
Following the previously shared ‘El Invento‘, ‘Visions‘ and ‘Head On‘, ‘Swing’ marks the latest single from Local Valley, which will be available via City Slang on standard black vinyl, limited-edition coloured vinyl, CD and at all digital platforms on September 17. Pre-orders are available now; an assortment of exclusive bundles featuring such limited edition extras as signed art prints, an original portrait painting, and Local Valley tote bag are available for pre-order at the official Jose González webstore.

In addition to his upcoming European and US tour dates including a now sold out show at London‘s Cadogan Hall in December 2021, José will also play at London’s The Roundhouse in April 2022.José’s stellar career can only be described as a dream. It’s easy to overlook the fact that, despite only three solo albums in 18 years, he has packed out distinguished venues from Sydney to Tallinn – via Berlin, Barcelona and Rio De Janeiro – and even sold out London’s prestigious, 4000+ capacity Royal Albert Hall a full three years after his last acclaimed collection, 2015’s Vestiges & Claws. He’s earned platinum records in the UK and his Swedish homeland as well gold in Australia and New Zealand. He’s also got some billion streams under his belt, and recent bewildering events have only endeared him further to the public, with his songs providing a consistent source of comfort over the last 18 months, something reflected by a significant rise in those streaming figures. González’s warm, intimate voice and tender harmonies, underlined by a dextrously plucked Spanish guitar and muted percussion, deliver profoundly thoughtful lyrics largely revolving around ideas of civilisation, humanism, and solidarity. A sincere, artful performer whose singular approach to songwriting and sonics sets him worlds apart, José González is in a class by himself.
