Following the recent announcement of his first album in more than six years Local Valley, José González has today shared a new video for the previously shared ‘Visions’, directed by long-time collaborator Mikel Cee Karlsson. As well as the video José has announced European and US tour dates including a show at London‘s Cadogan Hall in December 2021. In the meantime he has also announced two exclusive, interactive online live shows. More info and full dates including US dates alongside Rufus Wainwright can be found below.
The first of these online live shows, ‘Up Close & Personal’ on June 10 will be a performance from the Botanical Garden in José’s hometown of Gothenburg followed by an interactive Q&A. The second on September 12 will also be live from Gothenburg and will feature the first full Local Valley show with full production that will include pre and post-show interaction with José. Both shows will have features that include the possibility for the viewer to seamlessly switch camera angles, show appreciation by digital applause, enter chat rooms and more. The streams will be available here.
“I am very much looking forward to performing for all my fans worldwide again,” says José. “First with the up and close interactive online event on June 10, and later on with some summer shows and touring once my album is released. I am also especially excited to be able to present the world premiere of my new tour online for all the fans worldwide that won´t have the chance to catch any of my shows this fall and winter.”
Picking up where the wonderfully tranquil lyric video for ‘El Invento‘ – another recently shared Local Valley track and José’s first ever in the Spanish language – left off, the video for ‘Visions’ zooms out from José’s immediate reality and takes stock of the world as a whole. In typically beautiful fashion the video nods to climate change as well as our impact and our place on this earth while remaining bright and uplifting. González recently performed ‘Visions’ as part of National Geographic’s Earth Day Eve celebration. Watch here.
Speaking of the video José says:
“Mikel Cee Karlsson is always in tune with the underlying thoughts of the lyrics. I like how he used the angle from above to look at our surroundings, both natural and man-made as the backdrop to the song which is directed to humanity as a whole. I also like the twist of a tool falling from space as a visualisation that we can’t always know what might happen next.”
José González’s stellar career can only be described as a dream. It’s easy to overlook the fact that, despite only three solo albums in 18 years, he has packed out distinguished venues from Sydney to Tallinn – via Berlin, Barcelona and Rio De Janeiro – and even sold out London’s prestigious, 4000+ capacity Royal Albert Hall a full three years after his last acclaimed collection, 2015’s Vestiges & Claws. He’s earned platinum records in the UK and his Swedish homeland as well gold in Australia and New Zealand. He’s also got some billion streams under his belt, and recent bewildering events have only endeared him further to the public, with his songs providing a consistent source of comfort over the last 18 months, something reflected by a significant rise in those streaming figures. González’s warm, intimate voice and tender harmonies, underlined by a dextrously plucked Spanish guitar and muted percussion, deliver profoundly thoughtful lyrics largely revolving around ideas of civilisation, humanism, and solidarity. A sincere, artful performer whose singular approach to songwriting and sonics sets him worlds apart, José González is in a class by himself.
