Keeley Forsyth recently announced her debut album Debris will be released via The Leaf Label on 17 Jan. Along with the announcement she shared the Maxine Peake directed video for the album’s title-track and today has followed up with new single ‘Start Again’. Keeley has also today announced that she’ll be playing a headline show at The Islington on 29 Jan. She also plays Eurosonic, Groningen, Netherlands, on January 17, 2020.
Speaking of the track Forsyth says:
“‘Start Again’ is the song where the singer starts to stand and grow limbs. But there’s no rise. It’s bumping into things. There’s an immediacy to the song and ‘Start Again’ is a recognition of her human ability. Bourne brought the pulse and made a perfect melodic opening for this happen.”
Instrumentalist and composer Matthew Bourne, who collaborated on the album, adds:
“My role in this project is to elaborate on those tacit, near-hidden qualities which are found within the atmosphere of the original demos. In ‘Start Again’, each round of chords ended up as an uneven, five-bar phrase, and is something that seemed to occur naturally. This impulsive method is also true of Keeley’s other tracks – my instrumental parts are laid down quickly, before there is any time to ponder, or to be tempted to find a ’better’ way of doing things.”
Born and raised in Oldham, Keeley Forsyth made her name as an actor. While the creation of music has been a constant, she has taken the long road to finding its release – a deeply intuitive and singular musician, her songs are ripe with life experience. “They’re like blocks of metal that just drop from the sky,” she explains. “There was a lot going on in my life that was heavy and hard. Songs were made under that moment.”
Ahead of her The Islington show in January, Keeley will perform at a Matthew Bourne-curated Daylight Music session at the Union Chapel in London on Saturday November 30 (12pm start).
