At the end of last year Keeley Forsyth announced her second album Limbs, which will be released on 25 February via The Leaf Label. The album follows her 2020 debut Debris which was a breakout success, with features and prominent end of year placements from The Guardian, The Quietus, Loud and Quiet, The Line of Best Fit, Q and more.Along with the announcement she shared the video for lead single ‘Bring Me Water‘ which received widespread praise from the likes of the Evening Standard who praised the song’s “stark beauty”, Clash who said, “hugely evocative, the song seems to offer a complete world in and of itself” and more. Today she has followed up with the video for ‘I Stand Alone’. After a knotted journey through static, and frayed emotional landscapes, it closes the new record in quiet defiance. As with previous single ‘Bring Me Water’, it is accompanied by a video produced in collaboration with Ross Downes and Neil Cain.

Speaking of the track and video Forsyth says:

“The song uses words as murmurs in a moment of realisation. Strengthening autonomy and protecting human dignity, even at its most dark and surreal. It’s a survival song in essence.““We shot the video over two bitterly cold countryside days. We took influence from the cinematic traditions of folkloric horror and British rural gothic, as well as respectfully referencing Carl Dreyer’s classic The Passion Of Joan Of Arc, where the concentration and focus is on the main protagonist’s face and expressions, shot in intimate close-ups. We were keen to capture the absurdist aspect of the character ignoring her predicament, and staying committed to her own ‘truth’, in spite of what society may throw at her.”

Keeley Forsyth’s 2020 debut album found an elemental voice ringing out from beneath the rubble. The success of Debris led to a transformation as the songs were brought to the stage. An innate performer, Forsyth found herself channeling something she hadn’t yet fully come to understand, and it was here that the voice found on Debris began to probe outwards and discover a physical form. It’s a form that fully takes shape on her second album Limbs, produced by Ross Downes and with previous collaborator Matthew Bourne brought in to, “bring some of the soil of Debris“.Anyone who saw Keeley Forsyth perform after Debris can testify to the show’s power. In pin-drop silence, enraptured audiences watched as Forsyth inhabited a new body. Limbs is a record of reckoning with that physical body.

Forsyth has a short run of UK dates this spring, which culminates with her biggest show yet at The Barbican’s Milton Court venue on 11 March.
