Keeley Forsyth today teases her debut album with a video for recent single, ‘Start Again’. Already widely praised as an astonishing debut, Debris – which features sparse arrangements by pianist/composer Matthew Bourne and producer/musician Sam Hobbs – follows via The Leaf Label on Friday 17 January.

The video was directed by Andrew Hulme, co-founder of pioneering cult ambient act O Yuki Conjugate, known for his work as a filmmaker (Snow in ParadiseThe Devil Outside) and as one of the UK’s top film editors. Nominated for a BAFTA for his work on Channel 4 crime saga Red Riding 1974, Hulme – who’s also worked on films including Acid House and Control – first met Forsyth when, he says, “she walked into an audition and stunned me with her acting talents. I subsequently cast her in a starring role in The Devil Outside, and our paths have crossed ever since.”

Speaking of the video Forsyth says:

“The video’s part of an ongoing collaboration between Andrew and me. We first worked together as actor and director, and I love how the images he uses feel like brain cell muscle memory, and how they work perfectly with the song.”

Born and raised in Oldham, Keeley Forsyth made her name as an actor. While the creation of music has been a constant, she has taken the long road to finding its release. A deeply intuitive and singular musician, her songs are ripe with life experience. “They’re like blocks of metal that just drop from the sky,” she explains. “There was a lot going on in my life that was heavy and hard. Songs were made under that moment.”On the 29th of Jan Keeley with play a headline show at London‘s The Islington as well as a handful of dates around the UK and a performance at Eurosonic in Groningen, NL.
