Luke Abbott has shared the title track from his upcoming Truth EP under his new moniker – Earlham Mystics. The EP is set for release on April 14 (previously March 24) via Gold Panda’s NOTOWN Recordings label.
While the previously shared ‘Stolen Hearts‘ is a relentless earworm with more dancefloor leaning tendencies; ‘Truth’ takes a more stripped back, vocal-led approach, driven relentlessly forward by punchy percussion.
“The idea of ‘truth’ is a bit of a loaded topic” says Luke of the track, putting it plainly, “I hate this notion that we are living in ‘post-truth’ times. Truth isn’t something you can hide from, it’s the truth!”. Luke’s difficulty with accepting the idea of ‘post-truth’ comes across in the intense repetition and overlapping of vocals while the underlying beauty serves as a reminder that this notion is not set in stone.
Born out of a desire to break some of his own rules, Earlham Mystics is Luke Abbott hopping onto an alternate timeline for his career, both looking back to basics and moving in exciting new directions. Taking its roots from a time before 2014’s Wysing Forest moved him into a more symphonic, freeform realm and carrying those roots into the now, the Truth EP is Luke at his most immediate, offering up his most accessible work since previous releases on NOTOWN such as Modern Driveway and Object Is A Navigator.
Luke Abbott will be celebrating the launch of the Truth EP with a special NOTOWN Recordings event featuring DJ sets by Earlham Mystics and label head Gold Panda, at London’s biggest independent comic book store, Orbital Comics, in Covent Garden on Saturday 15 April 7-9pm. The event is free entry. For more details check notown-recordings.com and Orbitalcomics.com.
