Maxwell Sterling‘s latest album Turn Of Phrase was released last year via AD 93. His third album, Turn Of Phrase followed the cult success of previous releases Hollywood Medieval and Laced With Rumour: Loud-Speaker of Truth and featured singles ‘Tenderness (feat. Leslie Winer)‘ and ‘Decay Time‘. The album was one of Resident Advisor‘s Albums of the Month describing it as “never anything less than astonishing”, it was also one Bleep‘s Top 10 ‘Albums of the Year‘.
‘Decay Time’ was a standout moment from the album, being named as one of Resident Advisor‘s ‘Tracks of the Year‘ and today, one year on from the release, Maxwell has followed up with an extended version that stretches out, revealing the bones of the track before gathering back into itself.
Maxwell says of the track:
“Decay Time Extended takes a relatively simple composition for double bass, synths and field recordings and distorts and distends it through a longer form. As one of the main tracks from Turn Of Phrase, an album concerned with time, it was a fun challenge to extend the shortest track from the LP into something much more complex and disorientating. I can hear a change in my sound, something which is quite natural when you return to a body of work two years later.”
