Hot on the heels of her sold out Sebright Arms show and having been added to the BBC 6 Music A-list for both ‘Stealing Cars’ and ‘Fool’, Nadine Shahhas unveiled the characterful video for the aforementioned ‘Fool’, the latest single from her new album Fast Food out 13 April via Apollo / R&S Records. The clip comes as Nadine is also announced for Latitude Festival this July.
‘Fool’ is Fast Food at its most biting – but as with everything Nadine touches there is a wry humour and sweetness beneath the poised menace of its guitars, brooding bass line and spitting lyrics. “When I mention damn Nick Cave and Kerouac, I’m pointing out someone’s predictable nature, but Kerouac and Nick Cave are actually two artists I really admire,” she explains, tongue firmly in cheek.
With Nick Cave in mind, Nadine tips her hat in his direction for the video treatment and takes ‘Fifteen Feet of Pure White Snow’ as inspiration (sadly minus a splendidly wasted Jason Donovan). She also had this to say of the Anna Victoria Best directed video:
“We got a bunch of our friends together and took over the back room of a social club in South London. We got everybody drunk on wine (that my best friend brought with her in suitcases) and I attempted to teach them a dance routine.
In hindsight, I probably should have taught them the routine before the wine. Either way, I think they all look great. I’ve got a beautiful looking bunch of weirdo’s for friends.”
Fast Food will be available on vinyl, CD and via digital download (AMB1506). You can pre-order the album via Nadine’s website here as well as iTunes here.
